Floodwaters Receding from State Parks, Some Facilities Still Closed
Posted 14 July 2010
Dolliver and Walnut Woods state parks are open to camping and most areas to general park use. Both had been closed through the July 4 holiday due to flooding.

At Dolliver, the playground, boat ramp, part of the main picnic area and access to some lowland trails are unable to be used due to the silt and mud left behind by the flood waters.

The Canyon Drive and Lower Ledges Road at Ledges State Park are still closed to vehicle traffic due to record flood levels from the nearby Des Moines River.

At Lake Manawa, the river ramps are usable but the docks are not in. The bike trails on the Missouri River are closed.

The Lake Macbride Dam road that accesses the Coralville boat ramp, the Lake Macbride Dam and spillway area, and the Fisheries Station are closed due to flooding.

The access road to the Rotary Lodge at Wapsipinicon State park is expected to re-open later this week once work on the road should is completed.

Wilson Island State Park, which sits along the Missouri River in Pottawattamie County, is still closed. Wilson Island has a potential re-open date of Aug. 2.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources lists park closures on its website www.iowadnr.gov. Click on state parks in the navigation column on the left, then on the appropriate topic listed under closure information also in the navigation column on the left.
