Tax Prep Help to Claim and Keep All of Your Refund!!
Posted 12 January
2010
Families with low to moderate earned incomes will be able to claim
increased tax refund amounts if they qualify for the Federal Earned
Income Tax Credit (EITC) in 2010. These taxpayers can also save
money by having their taxes prepared by certified, volunteer tax
preparers who will determine their eligibility and electronically file
their return at no cost.
For the first time families with three or more qualifying children who
earned less than $43,279 (or less than $48,279 for married workers) can
qualify for a refund. The maximum refund of $5,657 is available
to those families with three or more qualifying children earning
between $13,000 and $21,000 and filing jointly.
Refunds for families with one or two qualifying children could amount
to between $3,000 and $5,000 depending on family income.
Taxpayers with children may also qualify for the refundable Child Tax
Credit (up to $1,000 for each child) and the Additional Child Tax
Credit.
For workers without children (and between the ages of 25 but under 65)
earning less than $13,440, the refund could be up to $457.
However, if the taxpayer has 2009 investment income of over $3,100,
they may not claim the credits – regardless of size of family or filing
status.
Taxpayers who choose to have their taxes done by certified volunteers
can save about $150 in preparation fees. Since the returns are
filed electronically, refunds can usually be directly deposited in a
bank account within 7-14 days, saving the taxpayer an additional $50 by
electing not to receive their refund in the form of a Refund
Anticipation Loan (RAL). These figures represent the national
average for commercial tax preparation and RAL fees.

Income Tax Credit, visit: www.irs.gov and click on Individuals, then
