Guatemalan Man Pleads Guilty, Faces Prison Time
Posted 23 July 2008
Carlos Tzirin-Rodriguez, originally from Guatemala, now faces up to 12 years in prison for entering a guilty plea to entering the U.S. illegally.

Tzirin-Rodriguez entered the country illegally to work at the Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville. Authorities say he entered the U.S. around April 1, 2006, at or near San Ysidro, Calif., with the aid of a smuggler.

Tzirin-Rodriguez pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids on July 16 to possessing a resident alien card not lawfully issued to him and knowingly possessing the
identification of another person.

Sentencing for Tzirin-Rodriguez has not yet been scheduled.
