Beware
of Local Phone Scam
Posted 21 July 2008
The Cedar Rapids
Area Chamber of Commerce is warning area residents to beware of a local
phone scam in which a caller is soliciting funds for a new chamber
building.
Officials with the chamber yesterday, Friday, July 18, shared that they
had received information from a local resident who had received such a
call this week.
The caller claimed to represent the chamber and asked for a donation
toward the construction of a new chamber building.
Amy Johnson Boyle, marketing and communications director for the
chamber says the chamber is not soliciting donations for a new building
and has not authorized these calls. She urges local residents to not
give money to anyone who claims to want money for this reason.
The chamber is asking anyone receiving such a solicitation to call them
at 398-5317.
