Boil Order for County Wells Lifted Posted 3 July 2008 Linn County officials yesterday, Wednesday, July 2, lifted the boil order issued last month for residents using private wells for their water supply. Recent test results indicate that the water is safe enough to lift the boil order for all properties in Linn County served by wells where flood waters did not surround the well casing. Anyone whose well casing was surrounded by flood water should follow the steps below: -- If the well has not been tested, contact Linn County Public Health (892-6000) for instructions on submitting a sample. -- If the well has been tested and received an "unsatisfactory" result, the well will have to be chlorinated. Contact Linn County Public Health for chlorination instructions. -- Following chlorination, wait at least 7 days and then re-test water. -- If the well receives an "unsatisfactory" result for a second time, then a well assessment from a certified well contractor is recommended. -- If the well receives a "satisfactory" result, your water is safe to drink but it is recommended to re-test your water at least 30 days later for confirmation. Households on water from shallow wells - such as sand points - in and around Palo should continue to utilize bottled water or alternative sources of water for drinking and brushing teeth even with a "satisfactory" coliform test result. The overall water quality for the water that supplies sand point wells in the Palo area is still being assessed. These wells may require additional, specialized, testing for specific contaminants prior to drinking.
