Boil
Order Continues for Flood Affected Private Wells
Posted 25 June 2008
Rural residents in Linn County with wells in flooded areas should keep
boiling their drinking water and water used in cooking and the washing
of fruits and vegetables consumed raw, according to Linn County Public
Health officials.
Authorities estimate at least one third of the private wells tested in
rural areas showed signs of bacterial contamination from flooding.
Some measurable contamination is also showing up in rural aquifers not
in areas impacted by flooding.
Residents are urged to exercise caution and have private wells and
water checked for contamination.
