$2 Million Investment in Iowa’s Community Colleges
Posted 4 August 2010
I-JOBS is benefitting each of Iowa’s 15 community colleges with a total of $2 million in grants. The I-JOBS initiative has funded specific projects that help community colleges fulfill their mission of preparing Iowa students for the jobs of the future in advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and information technology.

NICC is receiving $99,078 in I-JOBS community college infrastructure funding for various campus improvements.

In addition to NICC’s I-JOBS community college allocation, the Northeast Iowa Community College Foundation is receiving $750,000 from I-JOBS to construct a new public/college library in the main building at the Peosta campus. This new library will partner the NICC Burton Payne Library with the Dubuque County Library Association and the City of Peosta to establish a joint library for the community.

“This is just one of 15 projects all around the state, helping improve every one of Iowa’s community colleges, so that students like these can have an opportunity to prepare for a four-year degree or learn a skill,” Culver said. “The education they get here at NICC will allow these students to get one of the jobs of the future being created at great companies like IBM, Microsoft and Google here in Iowa.”

The Governor toured the construction site of NICC’s new facility for career and technical programs, which is making the I-JOBS library project possible by moving those programs out of the main building.
